More on Huckamania, Romney, and the House(s) of McCain

Allahpundit provides two additional observations:

(1) McCain can’t pull the POW card at every turn, such as his attempt to refute the houses attack by saying he didn’t even have a house for five years as a POW.

I agree with AP’s overall observation, even though I think the POW card makes at least some sense in this context, because I think biographical details wear thin on the American public if they are perceived as little more than political tools.  Regardless, you never want to attack a non sequitur (such as the charge Obama initially made) with a semi-non sequitur.  And, to my knowledge, McCain has yet to hit Obama back on his count of how many states there are or where Kansas City is, such as might be the best response to a purported “gaffe” on McCain’s part.  The Rezko ad was very effective in this regard, though.

(2) AP cites Lowry, who mentions that the housing issue may hurt Romney as VP.

Even though AP touts Pawlenty, I just can’t believe the best VP will be anyone with such low name recognition or even an individual of a different ethnicity or sex as McCain (without straying too far from conservatism on either point).  The media would look at Pawlenty and yawn, as will many voters.  This election has been, from the start, a matter of competing fireworks displays for the American people, with issues swept to the background.  And, unfortunately (or fortunately, perhaps?) it looks as though the final stretch run will provide more of the same.
