Is Obama Really Malcolm X, Jr.?

The Atlas Shrugs group is shopping this theory around.

Although the theory may seem farfetched–and I for one will remain a skeptic concerning all of the rumors surrounding Obama’s early years–the post is rather lengthy and filled with some interesting findings.

For example, I had never heard of Obama’s mother as anything other than a Kansan.  But was she a radical in the Sixties during her early adult years?

The question I would pose to anyone who dismisses this sort of investigation out of hand is, why hasn’t the Obama campaign been able to offer up a concrete rebuttal to some of the more far-fetched sounding claims?  Many of these biological details should be easy enough to prove right or wrong, so what gives?

I would also remind readers that, not so long ago, Jesus Christ was depicted in a fictional account as having married and fathered children.  Yet the story was shopped around as a challenge to the veracity of the New Testament accounts written two thousand years ago.  And The Da Vinci Code is really just the tip of an iceberg of modern scholarship devoted to discrediting the Bible.

So please excuse the folks at Atlas Shrugs for even inquiring into Barack Obama’s past.  They probably haven’t been informed that Obama is above the level of scrutiny which is customarily given to Christ Himself.

UPDATE: I just wanted to emphasize, before anyone takes me to task for passing along these fringe theories, that I realize the entirety of Atlas Shrugs’s argument is circumstantial at best.

But in America we value free inquiry–and at the end of an open and thorough inquiry, we are usually well-positioned to determine the merits of a claim.  One of the reasons, though, that folks are so motivated to inquire into Barack Obama’s life (besides the obvious need to vet a potential president) is that Obama always acts like he has something to hide.

Thus, my angle on the Atlas Shrugs stuff is, okay, let’s air out the evidence and see what it tells us.  When a theory should be put to rest, let’s put it to rest.  When evidence raises eyebrows, let’s inquire further.  It’d be a pretty fair shake for Obama–a much fairer shake than most GOP candidates are afforded.
